Methodist Medical Center & Peoria Unitarians

Good site.

How about shaming Methodist Medical Center which recently destroyed a historic Peoria landmark, the UU Church at Hamilton and Knoxville.
For the inside story on that debacle see www.peoriastory.org

Sidewalks for What?

The City of Peoria recently went crazy on eliminating basketball hoops from the street and right-of-ways. Wonder how they allow signs like this that prevents the disabled person who lives in the neighborhood from using the sidewalk with this "GOVERNMENT SIGN". This one is on busy Nebraska in the 900 block. Do you suppose if someone hangs a hoop on the sign, the City will suddenly care?

Also look at the size of them weeds in "FRONT OF THE CURB". Maybe someone ought to hang little basketball hoops on the weeds and then the City will do something about the weeds.

Front of curb

The City of Peoria requires property owners to cut grass and weeds from behind the curb and the City of Peoria has a weed patrol that tickets, fines, and does work orders on porperty owners that don't cut the grass and weeds to "behind the curb". Here is a picture of the fine job the City of Peoria does in maintaining the weeds and grass IN FRONT OF THE CURB. Is it just me or has the City stopped taking care of the weeds in front of the curb or is this year just worse because of the lack of rain.
Lets all call City Manager Randy Oliver at 494-8524 and ask him to hang a shame sign on City Hall.

129 W Richmond - Jeff Cohen - Heights Bank

Picture to come - fallen gutter and white paint with black trim, does not make a craftsman house "Art Deco Chic"

Oh yeah: an address, not necessarily current for Jeff Cohen - 2905 Woodbine Tr, Peoria 61604. That's over in Wardcliff.

How to White Trash a House 101

This is the sign the contractor proudly located at the corner of Nebraska and North. The attorney general aught to shut them down. As you can see the structure is highly visible from this highly traversed intersection.

Of course now the property is up to code, but this property will be an asthetic blight upon the architeture of Central Peoria for years to come. But of course, now it is up to code?!

Here are the problems that are visible from a sidewalk view:
1. The electrical service lines going into the basement are exposed.
2. I doubt the electrical service is 100 amps;
3. The windows are no sufficient for light, air or achitecturally kosher for the size of the walls on which they are installed.
4. the siding is not level
5. the porch steps lack a railing;
6. the porch is missing a support post

This could have been a darling example of victorian cottage architecture. There is a similar structure across the street. But to put it middly, this house has been cobbled and re-muddled and will only be attractive to a renter with no sense of class or proportion. And it this neighborhood, it will be hard to even find white trash to rent it. Which means..........SECTION 8!

Christian Family Center 1500 N Ellis

Why no shaming sign from the City of Peoria regarding this Christian Family Center house on the 1500 block of Ellis - across from Peoria High School? Some people think it is because the Reverend Tony Pierce supported David Ransberg, Marcella Teplitz and Gale Thetford in the last municipal election. I'm sure the Reverend Tony Pierce's Christian Family Center does a lot of good things, like getting their members out to the polls and being on call for lawn jockey duty at the political photo ops, of wealthy, connected politicians. But getting a property cleaned up and finding law abiding people to reside in it.........weeeellllllllll, that is another story.

Shame on Peoria

The City of Peoria recently began using "shaming" to address slum properties, and then men who solicit prostitutes. But there are a lot of things that the City of Peoria should be ashamed of, and is in need of some external motivation to change.
